Big breakthrough at IIT Kanpur: Scientists solve immune system mystery, opening door to better medicines

IIT Kanpur scientists have unlocked the mystery behind the C5aR2 immune receptor's unique function. Using advanced cryo-EM, they discovered a structural difference in its inner part, explaining its distinct signaling pathway compared to its counterpart, C5aR1. This breakthrough led to the creation of a new molecule, R8Y, which selectively targets C5aR2, paving the way for more precise drug development and a deeper understanding of immune responses.
